Dr. Ranga Rao Velagaleti pursued his Scientific Career in the USA since 1982. Having personally lived through hard economic conditions while pursuing his studies from High School through Doctorate, he had developed a passion to help poor students living in remote rural villages to obtain higher education more easily. He embarked on his vision by initially motivating farmers near his villages in Chandragudem Panchayat and also villages under Pulluru Panchayat, in particular, the laborers living in the Harijan area (Untouchables area) to educate their Children beyond school level in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India for nearly three decades. In August 1997, in memory of his Parents, Dr. Ranga Rao established “Velagaleti Lakshmi Narasimha Rao & Suvarchalamba Memorial Trust” at Chandragudem , Mylavaram Mandal, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh; with a goal to encourage the talented meritorious students of rural areas for higher education. This Trust helped students belonging to the 12 rural villages under Chandragudem Panchayat (including Chandragudem , Kotta Chandragudem , Borragudem and Jangalapalli villages) and Pulluru Panchayat(including Pulluru, Dasulla Palem, Chilukurivari Gudem, Badava , Kottagudem , Kotta Mangapuram, Lakshmi Narasapuram and Pulluru Tanda villages), by giving Annual incentives in the form of Book Allowances and Scholarships to the selected meritorious students. Dr. Ranga Rao had been funding this Trust from his own savings for over 14 years. Since 1997, a total of 302 Scholarships and Book Allowances were awarded till the day, before he succumbed to Cancer on 30 Oct 2011. This Trust continues to help the Meritorious Poor Students belonging to these 12 Villages with Books & Scholarships.
Dr. Ranga Rao Velagaleti had a distinguished Scientific Career. He was honored as one of the Century’s Inventors in Soil Microbiology in the USA. Dr. Ranga Rao had held high-level managerial positions(Manager to Senior Vice President level) in US Institutions.
After the sad demise of Dr Velagaleti Ranga Rao on 30 October 2011 , his wife and children, close Friends in USA and as well as his extended family members in India have taken up a noble mission to further enhance & accomplish Dr Ranga Rao’s cherished Goals to uplift the rural students belonging to the above mentioned villages by providing meritorious students boarding & lodging facilities, paying their tuition fees, cost of books & examination fees for pursuing XI & XII Standards at reputed Coaching Institutions of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions located at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. The objective is to prepare the talented meritorious poor students of these rural villages to be able to compete at par with those studying in Urban Areas throughout in the All India Entrance Examinations, conducted for entrance into Professional Degree colleges. These students without extra coaching provided for two years in Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions would have otherwise remained at a disadvantage for not only acquiring qualitative education but also in competing with their counterparts studying in Cities in the Professional Courses Entrance Examinations. Thus the Charity “V. Ranga Rao Village Scholarship Fund” was established in the USA in December 2011. This Trust needed an Indian Operations to account for the influx of Funds for an educational purpose from the USA and thus V. Ranga Rao Village Scholarship Fund (VRRVSF) Trust was established in India in 2012 & was registered in the Registrar Office of Hyderabad district on 01 May 2013. The VRRVSF Trust thus fulfills the Vision of Dr. Ranga Rao in uplifting the education standards of the Rural Poor Students studying in the three Govt. schools located at Chandragudem, Chilukurivarigudem and Mylavaram under Mylavaram Mandal, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
